Traveling to Bhutan
Your journey begins
The journey to reach Bhutan is in itself an adventure, but it’s one to be savoured at every step, including during its planning.
Arrive By Air
Bhutan has two national airlines: Drukair and Bhutan Airlines. Direct flights to and from our international airport in Paro connect you to Bangladesh (Dhaka), India (Bagdora, Gauhati, Kolkata and New Delhi), Nepal (Kathmandu), Singapore, and Thailand (Bangkok).
Arrive By Road
There are four official entry points by road from India: Samtse and Phuentsholing (in western Bhutan), Gelephu (in central Bhutan), and Samdrup Jongkhar (in eastern Bhutan).
Travel in the country
The easiest way to get around Bhutan is by hiring a vehicle and driver through a car rental company or tourism service provider, as self-drive vehicles are not available. You can also arrange transport through local drivers, hotels, or tour operators, who can assist with booking or providing transport.
Bhutan's four airports—Paro, Bumthang, Gelephu, and Yonphula—connect the country's regions. However, flights may be delayed or canceled due to Bhutan’s unique landscape and weather conditions, particularly at Yonphula Airport. For the most reliable travel plans, consult with our hosts or a local tour operator before booking domestic flights or other travel arrangements.
Domestic flight baggage allowance is 30kg for business class and 20kg for economy class. International travelers should carry passports with a minimum validity of six months at all times.
